By now, it’s no secret that Choi Seung-hyun (T.O.P) dominated season two of Squid Game with his hilarious and outspoken character, Thanos, who brought much-needed comedic relief to the hit Netflix series. We all owe director Hwang Dong-hyuk a massive thank you for bringing T.O.P into the Squid Game universe and back into our lives.

Thanos quickly became a fan favorite for his unpredictable responses, humorous naivety, and ability to separate himself from the reality of the games by always being in his own world— “Tanos world.” While Thanos can certainly be unhinged, true T.O.P fans can easily spot some of his natural playfulness within the character, which is one of the reasons Thanos is so magnetic—because let’s be honest, we missed T.O.P…a lot.

In an interview with Still Watching Netflix (see below), T.O.P explained that he “used gestures that are outdated and exaggerated to make viewers feel uncomfortable and unsure about whether they find him [Thanos] annoying or cringey.” I don’t know about you guys, but I was too busy laughing and admiring his purple hair to find him either of those things.

New to the T.O.P Fandom? Buckle Up.

If you saw Thanos during season 2 of Squid Game, completely overlooked his craziness, and thought, “Hmm, he’s handsome,” welcome aboard! You’ve probably Googled Thanos, discovered T.O.P, and now you’ve been sucked into a rabbit hole of fan edits, interviews, and captivating performances. There’s no going back now, so let’s get you caught up on the most important things to know about the amazingly humble and kind T.O.P.

The Moon

As a passionate person with an artistic mind, it’s no surprise that T.O.P loves the moon. He was very excited to participate in the dearMoon Project,

T’SPOT

T.O.P curated his own wine called T’SPOT that is made in and shipped from France. His brand currently offers Bordeaux, brut, and white wines that may be easier to acquire for those located in Korea, as they are currently offered in stores there. But, even if you’re not in Korea, his wines are available for purchase through the T’SPOT website. Also, be sure to watch the cool music video he created for the brand below!

A True Artist

T.O.P is an avid and serious art collector. As noted by Katya Kazakina (2021), his collection consists of works by many talented and sought-after artists, including Andy Warhol and Gerhard Richter, just to name a couple. His artistic influence can also be heard in his music. In “Doom Dada”, which is currently his most popular solo song, he says, “Mass media, calm down and embrace new inspiration. Doom dada divi da, I observe the Third World through meditation.” Also, yes, that is him in the ape suit playing with a microphone—add that to your list of reasons to love him.

Genuine, Gentle, and Sweet Personality

Just in case you thought it was impossible to adore him more, the man behind the powerful stage presence and compelling on-screen performances is a real-life sweetheart. In fact, if there’s one thing all T.O.P fans can agree on, it’s that he has a gentle spirit and a big heart. He has continuously shown how kind and selfless he is throughout the years—not only through his patient interactions with fans and media outlets, but also through his philanthropic work. He has made donations to the Hope Bridge National Disaster Association during Covid, the Seung II Hope Foundation for Lou Gehrig’s Disease, and also partnered with Sotheby’s for a charity art auction that supported young Asian artists.

Yeah…he really is that attractive and that great of a human being.

Oh, and His Solo Album’s Dropping Soon!
